Start with the recording you actually have
A useful short has a subject, a complete point and enough context to interpret it. Editing selects and arranges material already recorded. Caption generation turns speech into visible text; reframing adapts the picture; a hook introduces the point. These jobs can share an interface without becoming the same decision. A tool that performs one well may not solve the others.
Separate finding the moment from finishing it

Include the missing setup, supply an accurate visible label, or choose a different passage. Keep the no-new-tool option
For an occasional clip, an existing editor and careful manual captions can be enough. A recurring editor subscription becomes worth examining when repeated tasks—not the promise of reach—consume meaningful time. Save the source recording, the chosen timestamps and a reviewed export. Those three artifacts matter more than the number of effects switched on.
An example of a complete editing job
Suppose a team has a recorded explanation of a packaging mistake. The job is to select the passage identifying the mistake, retain the condition under which it occurs, caption the actual words and show the relevant object. Creating a synthetic narrator would be a different assignment. The short can be useful without new footage, dramatic music or a claim that the tool increased engagement.
