Make the opening specific
Name the task, mistake or decision the clip actually addresses. “Check this before exporting captions” is narrower than “This changes everything.” Specificity helps the right viewer recognize the value without requiring a fabricated outcome. If the source is an opinion, keep it framed as an opinion rather than turning it into a universal rule.
Compare the hook with the ending
Read the opening and final sentence together. Does the clip deliver what the opening promises? If the answer requires context that was removed, revise the hook or restore the missing passage. A generated suggestion is draft copy. The editor remains responsible for its meaning even when the wording came from an automatic feature.
Avoid false evidence in the first frame
Do not add invented numbers, customer reactions or before-and-after claims to make the opening stronger. A clear label can explain the subject without pretending that a test occurred. Our fictional example “Three caption checks before client delivery” is acceptable only if the clip actually contains those three checks. It does not imply measured conversion improvement.
Review prominence as well as wording
Large opening text can compete with the first spoken sentence and captions. Give the viewer time to read, and remove the hook when it has served its purpose. Check the phone-sized export rather than approving an attractive desktop frame. The hook is an orientation device, not a substitute for the content.
Use the smallest accurate promise
If the source explains one setting for one workflow, say so. “Check this export setting for this delivery” is more defensible than “Fix every video problem.” The narrower opening may attract fewer irrelevant viewers, but no traffic effect is claimed here. Its immediate benefit is editorial: the reviewer can check whether the promised answer is present and whether the scope stayed intact.
