Listen outside the proposed boundaries
Before accepting a suggested excerpt, inspect the surrounding conversation. Pronouns, comparisons and answers often rely on an earlier question. Keep enough material to identify the subject and the conditions. A short that begins with a dramatic conclusion can be misleading if the omitted setup described an exception rather than a general rule.
Use three practical selection tests
Can a new viewer identify the subject? Does the passage deliver one useful point? Does its ending preserve the speaker’s qualification? These are our editorial checks, not a validated prediction of performance. If one fails, widen the cut, add a truthful context label or reject the moment. Do not hide missing meaning behind faster captions.
Compare candidates by review burden
A slightly less dramatic passage may need fewer explanatory repairs. Keep a short list of candidates and record why each is usable or held. Avoid selecting several clips that repeat the same answer with different openings. The aim is distinct value from the source, not a large output count that shifts all the work to the reviewer.
Retain the original decision
Save timestamps and the reason for selection alongside the approved file. If a speaker later queries the edit, you can return to the surrounding material. This record is particularly useful when several editors work from one source. An AI score may help sort suggestions, but it is not the final authority on accuracy or permission.
Do not choose five versions of one answer
A useful batch can contain fewer clips than the source suggests. Compare each candidate’s reader takeaway. If several passages all say to check the same setting, keep the clearest one unless the others add a genuinely different decision. This is editorial deduplication, not an algorithmic reach strategy. It reduces repeated review and gives the eventual viewer a reason to watch another clip.
