Compare the same source on the same screen
Check whether the difference appears between the original and export, between two players or only after upload to a destination. Those observations point to different stages. Keep an untouched source and a small problematic sample. Do not overwrite the only original while experimenting with conversions.
Use the documented Submagic countercheck
Submagic’s HDR help article links washed-out output to HDR footage and suggests an SDR conversion followed by replacing the source video. That is a documented troubleshooting route, not proof that every pale export has the same cause. Confirm whether your source is HDR and preserve a backup before making a transformed copy.
Avoid compensating blindly
Increasing saturation may make one preview look stronger while leaving the underlying mismatch unresolved. Compare a carefully converted sample with the original on a suitable display and inspect skin tones, highlights and text. If the delivery specification requires HDR, do not silently downgrade it to SDR just to make one player look acceptable.
Keep the diagnosis with the version
Record which source copy and export settings produced the reviewed file. If the issue persists, provide a concise description to support without exposing private footage unnecessarily. Recheck captions and timing after replacing video, since a source substitution can affect more than color. The final file, not a hopeful setting change, is the evidence of repair.
Keep the source requirement visible
A client may specifically need a particular color workflow. If the proposed troubleshooting route changes that requirement, obtain the appropriate decision before treating the repair as accepted. A file that looks better in one browser is not automatically correct for the intended delivery. Record the observation precisely—such as pale highlights in the exported sample—rather than claiming a universal product defect or guaranteed fix.
