Listen before applying a filter
Identify the actual problem: constant background sound, clipping, room echo, low level or overlapping speakers. These are not equivalent. A generic cleanup control may help some material and harm other material. Keep an untouched source so you can compare the result instead of judging a processed version in isolation.
Check the words that matter most
Listen to names, numbers and quiet qualifications after processing. A voice that sounds smoother may have lost consonants or become unnatural. Do not let a caption fill in what you cannot actually verify. If the source remains unclear, choose another passage, obtain a better recording or hold the line for review.
Keep music subordinate to speech
Use music only when it supports the clip and you have the appropriate rights. Compare the output with and without it. If the viewer needs to strain to hear the instruction, remove or reduce the competing layer. A fashionable track is not a requirement for a useful business short.
Deliver the reviewed mix, not the editor setting
Check the actual export at a normal listening level on practical playback equipment. Note any remaining limitation in the handoff. We do not claim measured loudness compliance or a universally correct setting here. For specialist delivery specifications, use the relevant measurement tools and qualified audio review rather than a visual slider position.
Do not confuse louder with clearer
Increasing level can make noise and distortion more prominent along with the voice. Compare intelligibility rather than only perceived loudness. If two speakers overlap, a cleanup effect may not recover the missing words reliably. Preserve uncertainty in the edit notes and choose a clearer passage when possible. A confident caption should never be used to conceal the fact that the underlying speech could not be verified.
