Submagic vs Captions: the short answer
Pick Submagic to edit on a computer, and Captions to work on an iPhone. As read on 5 October 2026, Submagic Starter is $19 a month per member, billed monthly, for 15 videos. Captions Max is $24.99 a month, as shown on Captions' pricing page for its iOS plan.

Captions' page has no billing switch, and its help center says plans are sold monthly or yearly with a yearly discount, but no yearly figure is printed. Submagic prints both bases: $12, $23 and $41 a month per member, billed yearly, against $19, $39 and $69, billed monthly. Submagic pricing lists each plan.
Where each runs: the Captions iOS plans and Submagic in a browser
Submagic has no native phone app. A phone browser can upload a video, but the edit is finished on a computer. Captions says its features and prices reflect iOS plans only. Its help center adds that there is no Windows version of the app, and it has a page on using Captions in a web browser.
Videos a month against credits a month
Submagic counts a plan in videos: 15 a month on Starter and 40 on Pro, each up to 2 or 5 minutes. Captions counts in credits: 500 a month on Max and 1,400 on Frontier. The units differ, so 15 videos is not set against 500 credits.
Both can turn a long video into clips. Captions lists that on Max, and Submagic sells it as Magic Clips, a separate add-on with no price on the pricing page.
Free version against free trial
Captions' pricing table lists 1 caption template on the free version and 100+ on Max. Submagic's trial is three short videos with no credit card, its downloads carry a watermark until you subscribe, and its premium caption themes are on Pro and Business.
Who should pick Submagic and who Captions
- Submagic for editing on a computer: Starter is 15 videos a month of up to 2 minutes, and Pro is 40 videos of up to 5 minutes.
